Redwood Memorial Hospital receives Avatar award

Redwood Memorial Hospital nurse Mary Pearson helps new mother Erica Caulkins and her baby girl, Havilee. Redwood Memorial Hospital has been named the recipient of a distinguished award from Avatar International, a research and consulting firm. Avatar named Redwood Memorial one of its national award winners in healthcare service quality for exemplary service in "Exceeding Patient Expectations" for the year 2008.

In making the announcement, David Medvedeff, CEO of Avatar, congratulated Redwood Memorial employees and noted the significance of earning this prestigious award.

"The hallmark of exceptional service to patients is to consistently meet or exceed their expectations – not always an easy task," Medvedeff said. "Redwood Memorial Hospital has demonstrated that it exceeds its patients’ expectations in a tangible and measurable manner."

Joe Mark, CEO of St. Joseph Health - Humboldt County, was thrilled to hear the hospital had won the firm’s award for patient satisfaction.

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, physicians, staff and volunteers at Redwood Memorial Hospital, I am honored to accept this national award from Avatar International," Mark said. "This award is a testament to the dedication and determination of our employees to make each encounter sacred and provide patients with the quality healthcare they deserve."

Mark added that he is extremely pleased both Redwood Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital have been singled out by the company as leaders in the healthcare industry in recent years. Last year, Redwood Memorial Hospital was named a national award winner in health care service quality for "Exemplary Service Overall Best Performer 2007" by the firm while St. Joseph Hospital was given the Exceeding Patient Expectations award.
