Cancer Program

Our Cancer Program has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as offering the very best in cancer care and treatment. St. Joseph & Redwood Memorial Hospitals and St. Joseph Home Care, together with our community partners, form a comprehensive team offering care, support and information for cancer patients and their families. Our mission is to reduce morbidity and mortality from cancer. And since the program’s inception in 1992, we have carried out this mission by continuing to grow to meet the needs of our communities.

Our Team of Expert Professionals in Oncology

"Our goal is to use the most advanced technology and provide it in a supportive and patient-friendly environment," said Dr. Harmon. "Offering state-of-the-art technology at a local level eliminates the need for patients to travel hundreds of miles for treatment-treatment which may involve dozens of sessions, spanning many months. Emotional and financial burdens are greatly diminished by being able to receive care in the comfort of one's own community."

Cancer Surgery

The most esoteric tumors can be removed right here at St. Joseph Hospital. Surgical treatment of prostate and colon cancer is routinely provided. Especially noteworthy is our commitment to conserving breast tissue by minimizing surgery; whereas 75 percent of breast cancer patients nationwide are given a full mastectomy, here at St. Joseph Hospital that same percentage, 75 percent, received instead the far less disfiguring lumpectomy; a remarkable accomplishment for a community hospital!
