A gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is a type of medical procedure that assesses the lining of the upper digestive tract. To ensure that the upper GI tract is clear, a small, flexible tube will be inserted down a patient's esophagus and into the stomach. A small camera mounted to the tube will allow your physician to examine the internal lining of your digestive tract, determine the cause of pain, swelling, or discomfort, as well as prevent, treat, or diagnose digestive disease.
If you are experiencing any of the following, we can help diagnose the issue and determine if a digestive problem needs to be addressed:
Our digestive health services also include:
Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopacreatograhpy (ERCP)
St. Joseph Hospital is a leader in providing endoscopic services. It is our primary mission to provide our patients with the highest quality of endoscopic care possible. We offer comprehensive services ranging from traditional endoscopies to cutting-edge procedures not available anywhere else in the North Coast.
In fact, St. Joseph Hospital is the only hospital in the North Coast that provides esophageal function studies. Due to our specialized and Board Certified team of nurses and physicians, we can provide our patients with top-of-the-line diagnostic and clinical treatment remedies.
If you are preparing for an endoscopy, please keep in mind that your procedure may include the insertion of a small camera tube down your esophagus. Though we do provide general anesthetic and sedative to calm the gag reflex and numb the body, we want to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible throughout every stage of your procedure.
Do you have a question, concern or anxiety about a specific endoscopic procedure that you will be receiving in the near future? This is completely normal and we definitely understand. Please consult our physicians right away and we would be happy to provide you with the information you need for a sound, peaceful mind.
