Emergency Department - Redwood Memorial Hospital

Emergency Department - Redwood Memorial Hospital
Redwood Memorial Hospital operates a full-service, 24-hour Emergency Department staffed by emergency medicine physicians and specially trained and certified emergency care nurses. In addition, Redwood Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department is a designated Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP), by North Coast Emergency Medical Services. This designation means that our hospital has specialized policies, equipment, and standards for providing and monitoring emergency pediatric care.

We attempt to treat all patients as quickly as possible. On most occasions we allow families and friends to visit with patients during their evaluation. Let your nurse know if you have family or friends in the waiting room. We will keep them informed of your progress, as necessary. If you have a private physician who has been treating you, please let us know when you register. We will send your doctor a copy of the completed Emergency Room  record. If you do not have a physician, we will be happy to refer you to a doctor who can provide follow-up care.

The Emergency Department Physician will discuss all available test results with you. We encourage you to call back if you have questions regarding your medical problem. We are available to answer your questions 24 hours a day.

The Redwood Memorial Hospital Emergency Department is available to evaluate and treat any workplace injury. Because the full services of the hospital are immediately available, there will be no risky delays if the injury turns out to be more serious than you first thought. This is especially important for injuries to the head or back.

The Emergency Department provides a 24-hour community access to health care. Our ED is designated by Northcoast Emergency Medical Services to function as a Base Hospital for pre-hospital paramedic care that serves our community, surrounding rural areas and Southern Trinity Area Rescue. We also have the designation of EMS, which means we have specialized policies, equipment and standards for providing and monitoring emergency pediatric care.

Priority care is given to the critically ill and injured patients; all patients receive an RN triage and assessment, medical examination and stabilization. Care may include treatment and release to home, admission to the hospital for further medical care or transfer to an appropriate higher level of care at another facility.

The Emergency Department provides:

  • Eight treatment areas with cardiac monitoring capability
  • RN staff providing triage, assessment, evaluation and stabilization of all patients of all ages
  • In-house specialists: pediatricians, surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, internists
  • Follow up referrals to further medical care as needed
  • Direct link to the cardiac program at St. Joseph Hospital
  • Clinical/educational resource/training for nursing students, paramedics students, EMT students
  • Participation in community events providing medical coverage/health information
