  32-Slice CT Scanner Imaging

Our Latest Diagnostic Imaging Technologies

The New 32-Slice CT scanner
32-Slice CT Scanner at RMH - to be ready for patients in early 2010Redwood Memorial Hospital Diagnostic Imaging introduces a 32-slice CT scanner that is faster and equipped with workflow-enhancing software for improved image quality - leading to better patient care. Our new CT scanner better assists physicians in early diagnosis and treatment by offering a clearer anatomical visualization and improved soft tissue evaluation. This means a more comprehensive diagnosis in less time - and with greater patient comfort.

32-Slice CT Scanner ImagingAnd our upgraded unit also reduces radiation exposure to patients.

Computerized Tomography (CT) combines the use of X-rays with computer technology. Images, or slices, are sent to a computer to produce detailed three-dimensional images.

Advantages of the 32-slice scanner include:

· shorter exam times (particularly important for emergency and trauma patients)
· reduced X-ray exposure
· more rapid results to facilitate the treatment process
· a safe and cost-effective alternative to invasive diagnostic procedures

Bone Density Imaging
Bone Density scanning at RMHRedwood Memorial's new mobile bone density machine uses ultrasound on the heel of your foot to determine your risk for osteoporosis. Like other organs in the body, bones are constantly changing. Throughout childhood and young adulthood, bones grow in strength and in size. Around the age of 30, bones reach their peak strength and then naturally become weaker with age. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak to the point of breaking. This weakening may be due to aging, or caused by other factors that combine with age. Symptoms of osteoporosis do not occur until much bone strength is lost. The most visible symptoms may include loss of height, along with curvature of the upper back. Osteoporosis also can result in a crippling and painful fracture, occurring most often in the hip, back, or wrist.

Digital Mammography
For breast health, regular screening is crucial – self exams, clinical exams and annual mammograms. The American College of Radiology recommends that all women have a baseline screening mammogram at the age of 35 and yearly screening mammograms beginning at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, you should consult your healthcare provider to determine the best schedule for exams.
