Physical Therapy:
Physical therapists treat patients who have health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Individual plans are developed using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function and prevent disability.
We perform functional capacity evaluations (FCEs) and work closely with our occupational health clinic to treat patients with work-related injuries.
Types of injuries that may require physical therapy include:

- TMJ and headaches
- Workman’s Compensation injuries

Occupational Therapy:
Occupational therapy enables people of all ages live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, prevent, or live better with injury, illness, or disability. Our occupational therapists work with patients to help them learn the skills and adaptations necessary to regain function and satisfaction in the home, the workplace and the community.
Occupational therapists at St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial hospitals staff acute units, intensive care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient rehabilitation clinic. Specialty services include:
- Lymphedema treatments
- Pediatrics
- Custom splinting
- Certified hand therapy services
When working with an occupational therapy practitioner, strategies and modifications are customized for each individual to resolve problems, improve function, and support everyday living activities. Through these therapeutic approaches, occupational therapy helps individuals design their lives, develop needed skills, adjust their environments (e.g., home, school, or work) and build health-promoting habits and routines that will allow them to thrive.
Speech Therapy:
Our speech-language pathologists are trained in multiple specialty areas to ensure all needs are met. They diagnose, treat and help prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing and fluency speech-language pathologists work with people who have:
- Speech rhythm and fluency problems
- Voice disorders
- Difficulties producing speech sounds clearly
- Cognitive communication impairments
- Swallowing difficulties
Speech-language pathologists develop an individualized plan of care tailored to each patient’s needs. They teach patients how to make sounds, improve their voices, or increase their oral or written language skills to communicate more effectively. They also teach individuals how to strengthen muscles or use compensatory strategies to swallow without choking or inhaling food or liquid.
